Heritage College of Osteopathic Medicine to open extension campus
Cleveland Clinic and Ohio University’s Heritage College of Osteopathic Medicine (OU-HCOM) announced they have signed an agreement to develop a northeast Ohio regional extension campus of the medical school to be located on Cleveland Clinic’s South Pointe Hospital campus. The partners are addressing the growing shortage of primary care physicians in Ohio and investing a combined $49.1 million into northeast Ohio.
Boren winner heads to Turkey
Senior biological sciences major J.J. Reagh will spend the next year in Turkey studying biodefense. Reagh won a National Security Education Program Boren Scholarship, which provides up to $20,000 of support.
The Boren is granted to students interested in issues of national security. Upon accepting the award, recipients also agree to be employed by the federal government for one year within three years after they return.
Alumnus earns Rolex Award for Enterprise
Ohio University graduate Aggrey Otieno is one of the 2012 winners of theRolex Awards for Enterprise, a prestigious international honor that supports today's greatest innovators as they confront tomorrow's greatest challenges. Otieno is transforming obstetric care in his native Nairobi, Kenya, where maternal mortality rates are currently more than 50 times higher than those of the United States. Funding from the award will support Otieno's establishment of a telemedicine center in Nairobi.
The Promise Lives: Lynn Harter’s documentary project exploring how families live well in the face of pediatric cancer is made possible by the endowment that supports the Schoonover Professor of Health Communication.
Nancy Cartwright honors 2012 graduates
Kettering native Nancy Cartwright spoke as Ohio University bid farewell to the Class of 2012 during its 258th undergraduate commencement exercises in June.
More than 3,000 graduates took part in separate morning and afternoon ceremonies.
The Ohio University Alumni Association Student Alumni Board graduating President, Sarah Burkhart, said, "It is up to our generation to lead the nation through a constantly changing, interconnected world. It is our time to make change and leave our mark. I encourage all of you to stand up for what you believe in, even if it means standing alone, because if you look hard enough, there will be another Bobcat standing close by."

Highlights of the weekend include class photos, socials and dinners, theater and film productions, "OH, I dO" vow renewal ceremony, campus tours, open houses and more!

Ebony Bobcats hold annual meeting
The Ohio University Ebony Bobcat Network will hold its 2nd Annual Open Meeting, Aug. 17-18, in Cleveland.
This is an opportunity for Ohio University Black Alumni to socialize with fellow alumni, meet EBN board members and OHIO Staff, get updates about what’s happening on campus, and become active with the Alumni Association. The EBN weekend package is $55 per person; the Sip & Soul Dance only is $40 per person; or to attend just the 2nd Annual Breakfast Meeting, the cost is $20 per person.

400 alumni write notes to incoming Bobcats
The Ohio University Volunteer Alumni Admissions Network (VAAN) would like to thank all of the alumni volunteers who assisted with this year's Postcard Project! This year's participation rate grew by an astounding 68 percent, with 400 volunteers sending 4,090 handwritten postcards to admitted first-year students.
The postcard project serves as a recruitment tool to establish personal contact with students admitted to OHIO who have not yet confirmed their intent to enroll. By participating, alumni have the opportunity to create personal connections with prospective students and encourage them to attend OHIO.
