Ohio University among best in the nation
U.S. News and World Report released its latest Best Colleges rankings today, and Ohio University moved up a notch as a top national university.
Ohio University continues to be one of Ohio’s top public universities, placing 57th among the ranked public national universities. Overall, Ohio University placed 115th in the full national university list, up from 116th last year.
OHIO's SPJ chapter is Outstanding Campus Chapter in Region 4
Ohio University’s student chapter of the Society of Professional Journalists (SPJ) has once again been named Outstanding Campus Chapter in Region 4 and will be recognized during the national SPJ Convention & National Journalism Conference on Aug. 28 in Indianapolis.
OHIO researchers help design the interplanetary technology
Ohio University researchers are helping to design interplanetary technology that would allow NASA to use the internet in space.
Though the internet pervades life on Earth, the astronauts and satellites patrolling space can’t simply point, click and communicate data via the terrestrial "information superhighway." Planets, the moon or sun spots frequently interfere with internet protocols.
Raising the bar on biodegradables
Building on its reputation as one of the nation’s top-composting institutions, Ohio University is pursuing an alternate line of biodegradable cutlery that can keep pace with its composting technology. Biodegradable service ware is not new to Ohio University. The institution has been purchasing biodegradable food packaging and cutlery since 2007, with the opening of the new Baker University Center.

New Student Receptions
Eleven alumni chapters hosted receptions for incoming freshmen in the month of August, providing information and last-minute advice to students before they arrive in Athens Sept. 3 and 4.
Our alumni chapters, the Alumni Association, and Student Affairs staff were able to reach out to more than 229 incoming freshman, current students and families in the following areas: Cincinnati (pictured above), Cleveland, Central Ohio, Youngstown-Warren, Toledo, Dayton, Nation’s Capital, Philadelphia and Boston. A sincere "Thank you!" to all our chapter hosts for their assistance with this signature program.

Tuition increase announced for winter, spring quarters
President Roderick J. McDavis announced Monday that the Ohio University Board of Trustees has approved a 3.5 percent increase to the Athens Campus instructional and general fees for winter and spring quarters.
"Let me assure you that this was not an easy decision to make," McDavis said. He explained that the challenges faced by the state of Ohio are great and the final state budget enacted earlier this summer reflects a decrease in appropriations for higher education when compared with earlier proposals for the budget.

Byron Ward, '89 is the founder of The Black Student Business Caucus (BSBC), a group that celebrated its 20th Anniversary last January. Dedicated to his alma mater, Byron served on the OUAA Board of Directors from 2003-2009, providing leadership as the Co-Chair of the Nominations Committee. Currently a member of the Executive Advisory Board for the College of Business, Byron remains active by returning to campus for board meetings, volunteering for the VAAN and Bobcat Mentor programs, and recruiting Bobcats on LinkedIn for job openings. The Alumni Association looks forward to partnering with Byron again as we plan the Black Alumni Reunion, set for May 2010.
