Celebrated life of ACRN founder
Archie Greer, alumnus and professor emeritus of telecommunications, died Sunday, Dec. 27. He was 87. Greer is credited with founding the All Campus Radio Network, or ACRN, in 1971. Prior to that, independent residence hall-based radio stations existed around campus. Students were interested in networking the stations into one all-campus station, and with Greer's leadership, ACRN was born.

launched a new online peer-reviewed journal titled "Childhood in Africa: An Interdisciplinary Journal."

Academic Restructuring announced for Fall 2010
Executive Vice President and Provost Pam Benoit recently announced her decision concerning academic restructuring that will create important new academic opportunities.
By Fall 2010, the following academic programs will move to a new college: Sports Administration to the College of Business; Interior Architecture to the College of Fine Arts; Physical Education, Coaching Education, and Recreation Studies to the College of Education; Restaurant, Hotel, and Tourism to the College of Education; Retail Merchandising to the College of Education; Family and Consumer Sciences Education to the College of Education; and the Health and Human Services Early Childhood Education program will become part of the Early Childhood Education program in the College of Education.

Research and Creative Activity Expo 2010
This annual event, set for May 13, showcases more than 500 research, scholarship and creative activity presentations from undergraduate, graduate and medical students and postdoctoral fellows.
Participating students can win up to $300 in prize money by choosing to have
their work reviewed by a panel of Ohio University faculty judges. Students
also will make presentations to visiting middle school and high school
students, community members, and Ohio University faculty, staff and students
interested in learning more about student research.

Regional campus faculty conference held in Chillicothe
About 100 regional campus faculty converged in Chillicothe on Dec. 3 and 4 for Ohio University’s annual regional campus faculty conference. In its 10th year, the event provides an opportunity for faculty from all five regional campuses to attend workshops, network, share ideas and dialogue.

 Dr. Francine C. Childs is a Professor Emerita in the Department African American Studies at Ohio University and is currently serving on the 2010 Black Alumni Reunion (BAR) committee. A major initiative
for this year's reunion is to support the Urban Scholars Program by raising $45,000, which will fund one Urban Scholar for three years. Dr. Childs is the "face" of this appeal and a driving force behind the success of the reunion and its support of the Urban Scholars Program.
For the past 35 years, she has inspired thousands of people both on and off campus. She is the first tenured African American professor at Ohio University and has received numerous awards from the institution, including University Professor in 1978 and 1989, an Honorary Alumnus Award in 1997 and an Emeriti Honorary Degree in 2005.
