The time is right for WIP: A 'perfect storm' brewing for women's philanthropy
|
The Council for Advancement and Support of Education recently published a study titled, "Gender Matters: The Why and How of Cultivating Women Donors." The study lists the elements of a successful women's philanthropy program, according to Patricia Moline, a development expert. She noted, "that measuring the impact of women’s philanthropy requires an organizational and philosophical shift from traditional, male-centered fundraising and takes time and record-keeping."

SCORE Grant helps students give back
|
A WIP SCORE grant recently facilitated the donation of clothes in Athens County and Haiti. The SCORE (Student Community Outreach Resource Endowment) grant program uses allocated funds from the Founders’ Giving Circle. A representative from WIP works with the Community Service Leadership Council (CSLC) to select student service organization projects that are most beneficial for the students and the community.
This clothing drive, Bare on the Bricks, collected 1,015 pounds of clothes to donate to My Sister’s Place and Athens City Schools in Athens, OH. The remaining summer clothes these organizations did not have room for were sent to Haiti. Bare on the Bricks thanked WIP for the SCORE grant. Students hope that Bare on the Bricks becomes an annual event, and remains an OU tradition for years to come.

WIP planning retreat
|
The WIP Planning Committee met Feb. 18-20 in Bonita Springs, Fla., for their annual retreat. They were blessed with a fantastic hostess, Sheila McHale. Many thanks, Sheila!
Seven dedicated WIP members, pictured from left to right, Charlotte Eufinger, Barbara Schoonover, Dorothy Schey, Barbara Stom Thompson, Ellen Fultz, Sheila McHale and Arlene Greenfield, met at the Vasari Country Club. Barbara Strom Thompson began the meeting by explaining the need to gather and regroup after successfully raising a quarter of a million dollars, the first WIP fundraising goal. Barb was excited about what is next for WIP and thanked everyone for coming to the WIP Planning Retreat to discuss where we have been, what we have learned and about our successes and challenges. She explained that reviewing and brainstorming as a group would enable WIP to plan for the next fundraising goal. Barb asked everyone to think about WIP’s priorities and the WIP OHIO Women Making a Difference Conference (OWMD) topped the list. The next conference will be April 22, 2011, so mark your calendars now.
