Greetings from the 2009-2010 Society of Alumni and Friends Board of Directors!
We are planning to send out quarterly e-mail newsletters to you to give a brief update about what is happening with the association. The society’s primary mission has been to organize an annual event in Athens designed to help senior journalism students prepare to get a job. Senior Saturday will be held Jan. 30, 2010 this school year -- with a backup date on Feb. 27 if we are snowed out. We need people from each sequence as guest panelists. If you are interested, please e-mail President Mike Ramsey at mramsey92@yahoo.com.
Scholarship
The society also is in the process of establishing an endowed scholarship this year. We are required to raise $15,000 over the next few years to give the scholarship in perpetuity. The scholarship initially would give a student $500 towards living expenses for internships. Unpaid internships can be difficult to accept for many students because of the living costs associated with them. We think this type of grant could aid a wide variety of students and help establish a link between undergraduates and alumni. You can contribute to the fund online.
The Ohio University Foundation is handling the account and the donation is tax deductible.
Stay in touch
The alumni society wants to expand its reach to alumni, offering more services and offering opportunities for alumni to network and gain knowledge. To do it, we need help from as many Scripps graduates as we can. Being involved can be as simple as putting your name in an alumni contact directory or becoming a "fan" of our Facebook group.
